Laura's FAQs
Q. How do you get into voice acting?
A. Well, I would suggest studying acting first. Take theatre in high school and see if it's something you like. If you find out it's something you're good at and really want to pursue, then take some voice lessons and start training your vocal chords and diaphram muscles. As with any carreer, you really have to train, train, train to know what you're doing. Look into getting an local agent and see what kind of work there is in your region. While there is work in many places, if you're wanting to pursue a carreer in dubbing anime, the main hubs in the US are California, New York, and TeXas. Be aware though, that it's really hard to break into the business - so you can't get discouraged if you get rejected a few times.
Q. Can you get me an audition for an upcoming anime project??
A. Um... no, sorry. :)
Q. Can you tell me about any good agencies in my area?
A. Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about agencies in different areas. But you can can check out SAG.org for a list of all your local talent agents!
Q. Do you have any tips on how to be a voice actor?
A. Drink lots of water. Practice reading out loud. Be nice. And check out Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt's new book,
